Planning a trip to Canada? Here you'll find our 2 day-by-day itineraries (Ontario, Quebec, Rocky Mountains, British Columbia, Alberta, Niagara Falls), plus the essential practical info to organise your journey.

At a glance

  • Currency — Canadian dollar (CAD)
  • Language — The official languages are English and French
  • Visa — EU citizens need no visa for tourism up to 6 months, but an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) is MANDATORY for every air entry or transit: apply online on the official Canadian government site (about CAD 7, valid 5 years); you need a valid passport, a credit card and an email, with a reply in minutes
  • e-SIM — The main carriers are Bell, Rogers and Telus (good coverage in cities and along main roads, poor in remote park areas)

When to go to Canada

Summer (June-September) is the best season for most itineraries: long days, parks and boats open. Autumn (late September-October) brings the East's famous red-orange foliage. Winters are long and very harsh (down to -30/-40°C inland), spectacular but demanding. The Pacific and Atlantic coasts are milder.

Practical tips

  • Border and safety — Canada is a safe country: normal anti-pickpocket precautions in big cities are enough
  • Driving and car rental — Driving is on the right
