Planning a trip to Mexico? Here you'll find our 2 day-by-day itineraries (Yucatán and Chiapas), plus the essential practical info to organise your journey.

At a glance

  • Currency — Mexican peso (MXN): 1 euro is worth about 20 pesos (June 2026)
  • Language — Spanish (plus 68 Indigenous languages, from Maya to Zapotec)
  • Visa — Citizens of the EU, UK, US and many other countries need no visa for tourist stays up to 180 days: a passport valid for the whole stay is required (6 months' validity recommended), plus proof of onward flight and accommodation
  • e-SIM — EU roaming plans do not cover Mexico, and other visitors should expect high roaming rates too

When to go to Mexico

Dry season November to April: the best time everywhere, from the Yucatán sea to the highlands. May to October brings afternoon rains and humid heat on the coast (hurricane risk August-October on the Caribbean); highland evenings are cool all year: pack an extra layer.

Practical tips

  • Safety — The tourist routes (Yucatán, Oaxaca, the right CDMX neighbourhoods) are calm: big-city precautions apply — no valuables on display, authorised taxis or Uber, care at ATMs after dark
  • Driving and roads — Your national licence is enough to rent a car
