1. What is DIYourtravel
DIYourtravel is a platform to organize DIY trips. No fixed packages, no agencies: you choose every stop, every hotel, every restaurant. You can start from a ready-made itinerary and customize it, or create a trip from scratch.
2. Find inspiration
Use the search bar on the homepage to filter by country and duration.
Each itinerary has a unique code (e.g. IT-001) you can copy and share.
3. Anatomy of an itinerary page
Each trip is organized in 5 areas:
- Descriptive Area: general description and 5 buttons (Edit, Reset, Save/Share, Info, Map).
- Stops Area: trip days as horizontal tabs. Set the departure date and all days automatically get their own date.
- Summary: estimated total costs, bookings, day programs by time, overnight stays summary.
- Day Area: content of the selected day (photo album, notes, stop cards).
- Additional Costs: insurance, visas, car rental, etc.
4. Customize everything
Click Edit to enter editing mode. From here you can:
- Add, delete or reorder days with drag-and-drop
- Add cards for each stop type: Place, Overnight, Experience, Food, Travel
- Edit times, costs, notes of each card
- Move or copy cards to other days
5. Card types
There are 5 card types, each with a distinctive color:
- 🔵 Place: museums, monuments, churches, historic centers, natural parks
- 🟢 Overnight: hotels, apartments, resorts, camping
- 🟠 Experience: sports, courses, tours, festivals, hiking
- 🔴 Food: restaurants, street food, bars, markets
- 🟣 Travel: planes, trains, cars, ferries, buses, bikes
6. Automatic transfers (Google Maps)
Between one card and the next, the system automatically calculates time and km of transfer using Google Maps. You can choose the mode: 🚶 walking, 🚗 driving, 🚌 public transport, 🚴 biking. Change mode and times update in real time.
The last card of the day automatically sets the transfer with the first stop of the next day.
7. Advanced features
Combine multiple itineraries
Want to merge Tuscany + Provence? Paste the code of a second itinerary into the editor and the two will merge.
8. Save and share
When your trip is ready, you can:
- 🔗 Save as link and send it to your travel companions
- 📥 Download the JSON to reload it in the future
- 🖨️ Print a PDF of the complete trip
- 💬 Share on WhatsApp or social media
9. Affiliations
Some links on the site (Booking, GetYourGuide, Skyscanner) are affiliated: if you book through these links we receive a small commission that helps us keep the site free. The price for you doesn't change.
FAQ
Do I need to register?
No, the site is fully usable without an account.
Is my data saved?
Yes: in the browser (localStorage) automatically. If you don't clear cookies, you'll always pick up where you left off.
Can I use it offline?
We're working on the offline mode (PWA). For now, we recommend exporting the JSON or saving the link before leaving.
